SMIDEX 2009 (Innovation & Technology: Sustaining Power for SMEs)
Venue : Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre Date : 3 – 5 June 2009
The Association of Banks in Malaysia (ABM) was an active participant at the SMIDEX 2009 held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from 3 – 5 June 2009. This was a first outing for ABM at this specialist expo, organized by the SMI Development Corporation (SMIDEC). The objective of SMIDEX 2009 was to showcase Malaysian-made products, technologies and services for a global market.
ABM’s presence at the expo made good sense as ABM is often a conduit between small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and its member banks in matters regarding financing. ABM’s aim in taking a booth at SMIDEX 2009 was to enable ABM to better reach out to one of its many stakeholders, namely the SMEs, who may wish to get a more holistic and broad overview regarding financing issues or queries as opposed to deriving information directly with regard to a specific bank itself vis a vis the ABM member banks which also participated in the expo.
Drawing a corollary with the medical profession, ABM’s booth was turned into an “ABM Clinic” to enable our staff to provide a ‘diagnosis’ of any banking queries followed by more in-depth “examination” if necessary after the initial meeting. ABM staff dressed the role in doctors’ white coats with stethoscopes in hand.
Feedback during the three-day exhibition was very encouraging with the Assocation’s toll-free public hotline ABMConnect as well as its revamped web-site getting more exposure. Besides Bank Negara Malaysia, in total, 12 ABM member banks, 7 development finance institutions and the Islamic banks took part in SMIDEX 2009.
