Kuala Lumpur, Friday, 19 June 2020 – The Association of Banks in Malaysia (ABM) is pleased to deliver one unit of ventilator to Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) as part of the collective initiative by the commercial banking industry to aid efforts to combat COVID-19.

The handing over of the ventilator to HKL was attended by two ABM Council members namely, Mr. Stuart Milne, Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Bank Malaysia Berhad and Mr. Abrar A. Anwar, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia Berhad. Datuk Dr. Heric Corray, Director of HKL was present to accept the ventilator on behalf of the hospital. MERCY Malaysia who also attended the event was represented by Ir. Amran Mahzan, Executive Director.

The commercial banking industry had earlier in March, contributed funds amounting to RM10 million to MERCY Malaysia as part of MERCY Malaysia’s COVID-19 Strategic Preparedness and Response Plan. These funds are channelled specifically for critical preparedness, readiness and response support actions for the Ministry of Health and the National Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC), which included the purchase of essential medical equipment and medical supplies. ABM and MERCY Malaysia have delivered other consignments of medical equipment and medical supplies to public hospitals since the funds were made available for this initiative.

The commercial banking industry in partnership with MERCY Malaysia is committed to support our communities and the nation to battle COVID-19. ABM and our members also take this opportunity to express our gratitude to the medical frontliners for their commitment and dedication during the COVID-19 pandemic.
